Poxoprime II is Olympic's basic primer for epoxy pool coatings, designed for use on uncoated concrete and plaster surfaces. It's used as an undercoat for both Zeron and Poxolon 2, Olympic's epoxy paints, which we also carry.
As with any pool painting project, the pool surface should first be thoroughly acid washed, treated with
phosphate to remove oils, algae as well as the acid itself, and then hosed off before
using Poxoprime II (please see details in the Product Resource Center to the
right). This process creates a clean surface, ensuring a durable bonding
of the layers of primer and paint.
An advantage of Poxoprime II is that it can applied to wet surfaces (such as a newly-washed pool), meaning the pool can be washed and primed on the same day.
Like the epoxy paints which are often applied to it, Poxoprime II is comprised
of primer and a separate catalyst, which are mixed together just before applying to the pool surface. The result applies evenly but coating should be done fairly quickly,
particularly in warmer temperatures. One gallon of Poxoprime II covers a minimum of 200
square feet, providing a dramatically smoother surface to extend the
life of epoxy coatings.
